It Starts Here "It Starts Here" is a members-driven, community-based weekly email newsletter about world issues, with a keen focus on sustainability - economically, socially, and environmentally. In March of 2010, a few close friends and I met up for dinner and discussed sustainability issues, and what we can do about them, long into the night. One of our conclusions was to keep each other informed about sustainability news and world events. Henceforth, the ISH was born. I took over as the ISH email coordinator in August 2010. Since then, the ISH has expanded to over 50 passionate, like-minded people, including high school and university students, including IB candidates/alumni, Queen's Major Admission Award Scholars, Loran Scholars, and Canada's Top 20 Under 20 alumni. Despite this increase in membership, we still maintain an open membership list. Every week, members send me interesting sustainability news and info-bits, and I compile them into a weekly newsletter. A sense of community is what makes our newsletter different. In addition to the open membership list, each news link in the newsletter has the name of the contributor after it. There's a members-news-section at the start of the newsletter, for members who want to share personal news with the group. And because we like to have fun, I've incorporated weekly LOLz of the week (sustainability-related, if possible!), as well as theme newsletters for the special days.
